Updated Wednesday Keeneland Analysis After Key Scratches
Jockey Luis Saez will be off mounts today after being injured in a spill yesterday. Agent Kiaran McLaughlin reported no fractures and Saez should not be sidelined for an extended period.
It was a bloodbath to my early handicapping when scratches came out this morning for the 8-race Wednesday card. Top choices in Races 2,4,5,7 all exited the stage — including the Race 5 play that felt like the strongest opinion of the meet so far.
My key play left will anchor to #8 Ngannou in the finale. Brendan Walsh’s barn is firing the first 3 days of the meet and this colt has a history of running big races off of training and/or layoffs. There’s a $32K super high 5 carryover in that final race, and while it’s not a wager I play often, today would be the day to try based on my strongest opinion and a bankroll that won’t be stressed throughout the card. Be sure to get win money, of course, on a horse about whom you’re bullish. But remember that carryover money is a win-bonus and can’t beat you — it’s always a positive pursuit if you have an opinion.
Expecting heavy favorites in Races 3,6,7 to be tough to beat.
