Jeremy's Final Pegasus World Cup Day Thoughts
Fast/Firm conditions at Gulfstream Park are listed, but after a few days of wet weather, the turf course very likely has some give to it. Don’t shy from those with success on softer going. Big news for me in the scratches was longshot play See You Around scratching in the Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf (Race 10).
If you’ve seen my analysis in the 1/ST Pegasus Wager Guide (Free at 1st.com/guide), you know I’m disappointed to miss this 20-1 morning line chance. Race 10 now likely runs through expected favorite Raqiya and I’ll key her in trifectas with what looks to be a field of 11 as of this writing. I’ll use Dona Clota, Sacred Wish, Minoushha, Papilio and Bless My Stars under ($10 for each $.50 key).
The Race 12 Pegasus World Cup Turf is the most challenging of the big ones. Spread there to get any confidence in the multi-race bets.
As for the Pegasus World Cup (Race 13), I’m not creative. I don’t see any way to go against potential lone speed Saudi Crown, Gulfstream-loving class horse White Abarrio or expected favorite Locked, who must overcome a tough post. Maybe you get creative in second for an exacta, but I don’t see a path to all 3 of those running poorly and losing. Getting Skippylongstocking second might be a decent exacta, but demand $30 for $2 in any fashion under the 3 likely winners.
Best bet: #4 La Mehana (9-2 ML) in the Race 7 La Prevoyante Stakes.
Key single: #9 Emery (3-1 ML) in the Race 11 Inside Information Stakes.
